For the past five to six years, fear has been an unwelcome companion in my life. It has kept me paralyzed, preventing me from fully pursuing my true passions and ambitions.
Today, I want to share my genuine and heartfelt journey of overcoming that fear and embracing the things that truly light a fire within me. These passions include building personal brands and micro-businesses, transforming old treasures through thrifting and crafting, and empowering young (and fellow) Black women to create healthy, wholesome lives as wives. THE WEIGHT OF FEAR: Fear can be a demonic force, its agents whispering doubts and insecurities into our ears. Despite having achieved recognition through features in prestigious media outlets like WEtv, Oxygen network, TLC, Prevention Magazine, Entrepreneur Magazine, Insider and more, I've felt inadequate and fearful about openly sharing my passions. I constantly compared myself to the other, shinier influencers and personal brands we're accustomed to seeing, believing that I didn't measure up in terms of appearance or image. CLAIMING MY DREAMS: After much introspection and soul-searching, I realized that I was standing in the way of my own dreams. In the words of Taylor Swift, it's me. Hi! I'm the problem, it's me! The realization hit me that these passions, which have been ingrained in me since the day I was born, are my calling and purpose in life. I have come to accept that the fear I feel is a sign of the magnitude of my dreams, and that at some point I'll have to answer to God for why I never put them to use. It's time to take action. RETURNING TO MY ROOTS: As I embark on this new chapter, I'm reclaiming my initial platform--music and singing. The creative spark that had dimmed over the years has rekindled, and I am excited to immerse myself in the world of music once again. I am grateful to God for allowing this creativity to resurface, providing me with a renewed sense of purpose and fulfillment. The vibe I'm feeling now is Gospel and soul with my own neo-jazz infusion, but stay tuned to see what actually turns up! SHARING MY JOURNEY: This heartfelt announcement serves as a fair warning of the changes you'll witness in my content. I will be discussing and sharing insights from my passions—building businesses, repurposing old treasures (including my thrifted finds and home) into unique delights, and empowering younger and fellow Black women to become wives. I invite you to join me on this journey by diving into deeper discussions, offering your support and sharing anything that resonates with you. COMMUNITY GROWTH: To foster a closer connection with you, I've (re)started my weekly email newsletter under my own name and it will delve deeper into these topics. I encourage you to sign up if you haven't and become part of our growing community! Additionally, I have developed specialty programs and trainings that will soon be available for those seeking further guidance and support. EMBRACING AUTHENTICITY: Can I keep it real?... One reason I hesitated to share my passions was because I still maintain a day job. It felt contradictory to speak about building successful businesses and making significant income while continuing to work a 9-to-5. However, I have reached a point where I no longer care about these perceived contradictions. I want to be transparent and open about the things that inspire me and can inspire others, regardless of societal expectations. CONCLUSION: Fear has held me back for far too long, but today I am breaking free from its truly stifling and suffocating grip. I am embracing my passions, my dreams, and my purpose with an unwavering determination. I invite you to accompany me on this exciting journey, to grow and learn together in the upcoming season of our lives. Let us embrace authenticity, support one another, and create a community where we can all thrive. NEXT STEPS: Sign-up for my weekly newsletter!
